Nova Floor team recently completed a laminate flooring project in Dubai Hills Estate on 27 August 2026. The client had just moved into a new home, and the whole open living area needed a fresh look.
The family called us in the morning. The lady of the house told us something we hear very often. The house looked nice in photos. But inside, it felt cold.
Big open living room. Kitchen joined to the lounge. Shiny tiles everywhere.
“It looks like a showroom,” she said. “It does not feel like a home.”
They wanted a warm wood look. But they did not want real wood. It costs a lot, and it needs too much care in Dubai weather.
We visited the house first
Our team went there soon after the call. We never give a price on the phone. We go, we measure, and we check the floor.
The living and dining area was close to 1,400 sq ft, all one open space. Most of the old tile was flat. But we found two low spots near the balcony door, and one more dip near the kitchen island.
These look like small things. But on a big floor, small things turn into creaks later.
We also checked the moisture in the floor. The balcony door opens every evening and humid air comes in. It is better to know this before we start, not after.
What we chose
This family has two kids and a dog, and they have guests over often. So the floor had to be strong.
We chose 12mm AC5 laminate in Smoked Grey Oak. AC5 simply means it can handle heavy daily use. It is water resistant too, which helps near the kitchen.
Smoked Grey Oak is a warm grey shade with soft brown in it. It goes well with their dark brown kitchen cabinets.
The client could not decide at first. So we left three sample planks in the room overnight. She saw them in morning light, in evening light, and under the lamps. Smoked Grey Oak was the one she picked.
The work
First we fixed the two low spots. Then we put a soft underlay on the whole floor. This makes the floor quiet and smooth.
After that, we let the planks rest in the closed, air-conditioned room for a while. Many workers in Dubai skip this step. This is the main reason floors lift up in summer.
We laid the planks facing the balcony glass, so the sunlight runs along the wood lines. It is a small thing, but it makes the room look longer.
We also left small gaps near the walls so the floor can move a little. Then we covered them with matching skirting.
The whole job was done quickly and we left no mess behind.
The result
The client walked in after the work was finished. The room was the same size. But now it felt like her home.
